"Hitotsu" means "one" in Japanese, and marks the starting point of this series exploring the wonder of human growth — both physical and emotional.

Last year, Asami became pregnant through IVF (In Vitro Fertilization), a process during which she had the rare experience of seeing her embryo before it was returned to her body. Witnessing how it grew — forming organs, tissue, and every element of life, without ever needing to be taught — left a lasting impression on her.

This experience led Asami to reflect on how that same, quiet process of growth continues throughout our lives. Hitotsu began as an exploration of this idea: the emergence of a human being, and its unfolding from a single, singular point.

For this series, she used a wider range of colour than in her past work — an intentional choice, meant to reflect the infinite, blooming nature of human life.
