Hitotsu

Hitotsu means "one" in Japanese and is the starting point of this series that aims to explore the wonders of human growth, both physically and emotionally.

Last year, Asami was able to get pregnant through a special infertility treatment called In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). During her treatment, she had the special and rare experience of seeing her embryo and returning it into her uterus.

This process fascinated Asami, and she experienced first-hand the complex process by which a Hitotsu embryo naturally grows organs, body tissue, and all other elements of life, without needing to be taught how to do so.

Asami became curious about how her experience with IVF could be likened to the growth we all experience as humans over our lifetime. This curiosity helped her decide to create works based on the concept of the emergence of a human being and how it grows from Hitotsu.

In this series, she uses more colours than usual compared to her past series. This was an intentional choice and aims to depict the infinite and blooming nature of humanity.
