About

Asami Nakamura is a Japanese abstract artist based in the unceded ancestral land of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations, also known as Vancouver, B.C. Canada.

She grew up in the countryside of Japan, where her playground was in nature. She was always fond of creating art with trees and leaves from the mountain.

Her painting journey started in elementary school, where she went to art school for 6 years to learn the basics of art. At University, she studied fashion, architecture, and chromatics the science of colour.

After she graduated, she became a food stylist, where she learned how to use different colours, materials and components to influence how the audience perceives the value and beauty of food.

When Asami transitioned into her painting career, she drew from her diverse past experiences at University and as a food stylist to create her work. She also garners inspiration from the patterns, colours and landscapes of nature, as well as the feelings and things she resonates with in her daily life.

Asami feels the greatest joy when her artwork finds its new home. She hopes the owners of her paintings can feel a sense of calm whenever they observe the piece, and that her work can become a part of their home as time goes by.

In her own words: “I hope my artworks will bring serenity and peace to your place.”
